Many young dads live apart from their child, at least at first. Some get together with their partner later, when they get a flat and a job, or sort their benefits out.
You can still be a good dad, even if you live apart, but you do have to work at it.
Research shows that children are healthier when their dads spend time with them.
The best thing for them is to have two parents in a stable relationship. Next best is regular contact with their dad, one who takes an interest, gets involved.
Knowing they’re loved – even a bit – makes a big difference to their lives, to how they feel about themselves, and to how stable their relationships will be later.
