You should get £500 to buy things for baby. If you or your partner receive any of these:

  • Income Support
  • Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
  • Working Tax Credit with a disability or severe disability

Claim through Jobcentre Plus. (ask for form SF100) any time after 11 weeks before the birth* and 3 months after the birth.

If you're under 16, your parents can usually claim it for you if they already receive Child or Working Tax Credits.

Get help from Connexions. or the lone parent adviser.

*i.e. the 29th week of pregnancy
