Overheating increases cot death risks. If they have too much
bedding or the room’s too hot, they can overheat.
If baby’s sweating or its tummy feels too hot, take some
bedding off.
They don’t need hot rooms - about 18° C (65° F) is comfortable.

- if baby’s wearing a nappy, vest and babygro in summer, if it’s very
warm, they might not need bedclothes, just a sheet - even in winter, a baby that’s unwell or has a fever will need fewer
clothes - babies cool off through their heads so make sure their head can’t be
covered with bedclothes - take off their hats and extra clothing as soon as you get indoors or
into a warm car or train – even if it wakes baby

- with a hot water bottle or electric blanket
- next to a radiator, heater or fire
- in direct sunshine
